Celebrating Ten Generations from Jefferson's Table
Once again it is time to display all the finery,
the antiques and traditions,
from all those Harvest Feast Days that have gone before.
Some of us began to put out all the appetizers on a huge silver Lazy Susan...we had smoked oysters, Creme Cheese with Red & Green Jalepena Jelly and our Famous Mr. Jefferson's Candied Nuts" that we make every year for the Holidays.
Some of us made their own speciality, Celery Boats, stuffed with Bacon Cheddar Cheese, and then sat waiting for the signal to start the feast!
Some of us were checking on all the dishes
and getting each one ready for baking...
Some of us were placing all the beautiful Indian Corn Cookie Ornaments
on each plate and the table came alive with color...
Next we positioned Roses & a scented collection of clove studded oranges...
Some of us pulled out the sublime Shramsberg and began toasting to the spirit of the day with a crystal bowl full of tiny, tiny diamond like bubbles...a splendid beginning to the banquet ahead.
"May your stuffing be tasty
May your turkey plump,
May your potatoes and gravy
Have nary a lump.
May your yams be delicious
And your pies take the prize,
And may your Thanksgiving dinner
Stay off your thighs!"
Some of us were preparing to carve...and some of us were bringing out all the cherished dishes that return to grace the big spread each year.
The Tomato Aspic, Tropical Fruit, Cucumber Vinaigrette, Rutabaga & Mushrooms, Brussels Sprouts, Grammy's String Beans, Candied Sweet Potatoes, Whipped White Potatoes and certainly Cranberry Jelly & Chutney all to enhance the "piece de resistance". The Roasted Turkey with Ga-ga's Stuffing,
Country Gravy and Biscuits.
...and when it was all just perfect, the guests descended.
Thereafter the plates of goodness marched to the table for serious savoring,
each morsel firing a memory from the past.
The work of many hands...A Thanksgiving Triumph!
And then came the Pies, Uncle David's Pumpkin & Pecan...
We passed the Chocolate Almond Nuggets
and some of us finished with Coffee...
Ahhhhh, bliss, fulfillment. Memories to save and re-create for another year.
Thank you for sharing. Cheers!
