Everyone was welcomed at the entry of our old adobe with these spectacular cymbidium orchids that are pale peach with a splashy raspberry stripe. They thoughtfully bloom for this event every year, as if they want to be sure not to miss the party? I must say they out did themselves this time. We created a festive family brunch to celebrate Easter, Spring and especially the 39th Wedding Anniversary of my Sister and her fine husband.
My Son brought a huge bucket of daffodils that were only many green spears when we put them in all our array of blue & white china, lovingly collected over 40 years. We set out three Valentino gazing balls, originally with huge price tags but luckily scored from a showroom sale table in the 80s. These worked as centerpieces and in the morning the magnificent frilly extravagance of the flower's unforgetable yellowest yellow of all dazzled us awake, just in time to start putting out all the dishes that our family traditions always demand on this day.
Ham Kabobs & Fancy Mustards
Garden Salad with Miso dressing
Tropical Fruit Platter
Brown Sugar Baked Beans
Giant Buttermilk Biscuits
Honey Butter & Citrus Marmelade
Carrot Cup Cakes with Cream Cheese Frosting
Our esteemed Irish Auntie brought crowns for the happy couple and we busted out the Mumms. Lovely tiny bubbles flowing while we toasted over & over again. We started out serious and then it turned to hilarity. Here are some of the favorites.
"Raise your glass high and take a big glug.
Remember the 39 years with a hug.
A long time ago on this day
You promised to love and obey.
So what were you thinking?
You must have been drinking
to take such a vow anyway."
"Let’s drink to Rita Rudner who once remarked,
I love being married. It's so great to find that one special person
you want to annoy for the rest of your life.”
"Lift your glass high and drink to Phyllis Diller
who once gave this wise advise,
Never go to bed mad. Stay up and fight.”
